A Gamer Holiday and Shameless Advertising

In late July I plan on starting my own Holiday.  I’m calling it 16-Bit Saturday.  8-Bit is awesome but 16-bit allows the variance I desire for my weekend.  Kidding, it’s because the alliteration.

The debacle over the name over; what is this Holiday?  Well it’s a weekend to celebrate our origins.  I say we have a weekend in the summer where all gamers take a couple vacation days or call in sick to celebrate video games as we used to.  Fun things, we got together with a couple of friends, and forgot our cares over.  A time when console wars didn’t exist.  We all brought our systems together, no matter how diverse or different, and played them.

I’m personally creating a Facebook event for everyone I know and offering up my pad as a place to crash.  I will have four TVs of my own, provided no one else brings some, all set up between the dining room and living room with different consoles on each.

I want to play video games, get drunk, and remember what’s it like to have fun when games didn’t need to be triple A or make sense.  I will be a pipe jumping plumber that kills turtle demons and mushroom meanies.  I will Rage on some streets.  I might even double some dragons.

I encourage you all to do the same.  In the coming years I wish to make this a thing.  Every fourth Saturday in July.  16-Bit Saturday.  A national holiday for gamers.

Oh also… check out SDA Marathons that week too if you can’t make it.  Speed running for a cause.  I can’t get over this fascination with the phenomenon.
