Xbox One: An Opinion

I just wanted to take a moment to talk about the Xbox One on my website about video games.

Something truly amazing happened this last week.  A high-impact icon of an industry ascended to God-like status.  It’s hard to believe that less than seven days ago David Beckham retired.

It was a tear-filled ceremony and one of those “big moments” that won’t soon be forgotten.  We knew the day would come but when it finally arrived, we couldn’t help but surrender our respect.

Beckham brought soccer to the main stream for an entire generation of kids.  When people who don’t like soccer make jokes, they’ll now know two famous soccer people to name.  A burden Pele is no longer the sole barer of.

To those that caught Beckham in action, rather than saw his underwear ads or heard that movie title, he’ll be remembered for his pure desire to play the sport.  Raw talent wasn’t his gift;  determination was.  To quote Wikipedia quoting a guy:

“David Beckham is Britain’s finest striker of a football not because of God-given talent but because he practices with a relentless application that the vast majority of less gifted players wouldn’t contemplate.”

To say something I didn’t just Google a second ago.  Beckham is a badass.  And watching him freekick was awesome.  I really can’t say that about any other soccer player I’ve personally watched.

But that’s enough about soccer.  We’re here to talk about the Xbox One.  And not many Americans give a crap about soccer.

This winter may be one of the greatest seasons of all.

Packer Season.

Aaron Rodgers received his due compensation for being the best damn QB in the league, we’ve drafted a pair of promising youths to build a running game around, and have added some raw talent in the receiving core.  If we can get some protection for the QB we’re making another Superbowl Run this year.

Go Pack, Go.

Enough sports let’s talk about something that really matters.  Something a friend paid me to say.

One of my friends just put up a Twitch page for Speedruns.  He’s a fledgling in this subtype of gamer.  But the boy’s got gumption.  Click Here for a Shameless Plug and Cross Promotion.

I just realized how little I’ve said about the actual subject of this post.

Xbox One.  It’s a glorified TiVo with several superfluous features that my smart TV already has and an abundance of inconveniences to anyone that wants to use the damn thing for its primary function: gaming.  Potential for 100% Internet Connection, penalties for buying used games or lending a game to a friend, and mandatory social feeds that basically amount to adware.  It’s clear the folks responsible for the Xbox One have set their sights on competing with Apple and not the gaming industry.  It has sports though.
