Best 99 cents ever spent

By now you’ve all learned my thoughts on “casual games.”  To annotate: I’m against them.  But there came a time where all of our college friends became obsessed with Robot Unicorn Attack.  It was all related to the Harmony fiasco on 4chan’s Vidya.

We spent weeks outdoing each other’s score on that fucking game.  We’d up the other person by a thousand points and brag; another would break that.  The circle continued.

Eventually one of our friends got such a high score (out of no where) that we’d never hope to hit it, and we quit.

Well I was slightly tipsy last night while watching Cartoon Network (honestly I haven’t watched cartoon network in over a year) and they advertised Robot Unicorn Attack 2 so I downloaded it immediately on my oversized Droid phone immediately.  I woke up the next day very sober and very unimpressed by the sequel.

I kept playing it and kept topping scores but still felt empty.  I thought maybe it was because my friends weren’t trying to outdo me.

Nah… they changed the soundtrack.  I paid 99 cents to get Always by Erasure and it made all the difference.  I am a kid again.  This game is candy.  Whenever I am waiting in a car for take out or at work on a break, I’m happy.  Best 99 cents spent ever.

Microtransactions continue to baffle me, but I’m making an exception for Robot Unicorns and shit.
