Winsomnia’s Been in Limbo

My website will be taking a new direction.  Porn.  I will now be hosting porn.

I’m lying but maybe mentioning porn a few times will up my Google hit count.

The actual new direction involves taking a more blog-like approach to this website business.  More content, my friends assure me, is always better.  So from now on my site will be a blog that features video game reviews (and porn – still lying).

Additionally I’m going to return to one of my original intentions, “shorts.”  Reviews in passing of games either not worth, or not requiring a full write up… as well as commentary on the industry at large that sometimes comes up in review but could be quickly addressed in a blog post.

It’s time to weigh in on life, love, and video games on a more day-to-day fashion. To that end, here’s my first Short.

It may not be the most temporally relevant but since my site has been in a sort of torpor for a while it seems appropriate.  I give you my first Short… Limbo:

Limbo is an atmospheric puzzle/platformer that draws strength from its surreal art and rewarding difficulty (with failure marked by satisfying ragdoll physics). With this game the old adage, “less is more” holds. Limited color palate (you get black, white, and the grays between – in surprisingly crisp contrast), minimal but ambient sound/music, and a purely visual story left mostly to your own imagination. Odd as it is to say, there’s sort of dystopian longing to the entire experience that adds an emotional layer so few other casual games achieve.

Did I mention it’s fun? Limbo is fun. You will fail and be surprised throughout the game. You’ll be stumped and feel triumph when you succeed (sometimes to be smashed immediately afterwards). Limbo gets the difficulty curve to reward ratio down. Add in some black humor and this game gets nothing but commendations from me.

It’s the perfect game to play really late at night when you can’t sleep. If you missed this one check it out.
