Vanity and Video Games

Orwell said all writers are vain, selfish and lazy, and at the very bottom of their motives lies a mystery. Writing a book is a long, exhausting struggle, like a long bout of some painful illness.  A person would never undertake the task of writing unless possessed by some demon they can’t resist or understand.

Video games are a hobby for this writer.  A hobby embraced and enhanced by a man possessed by writing.  I think it’s safe to say that even writing a review can be a painful illness.  The real symptom of being a writer is the chronic state of egoism.  Writers want to be read.  We already have an inflated sense of self-importance.  We feel our word is important enough to be marketed for mass consumption.  In a way I’m grateful to just be writing week to week.  Lately I’ve lamented my lack of circulation.  Writing is the only thing I’ve cared to do with my life since writing and illustrating my own comic books in grade school.  Video games are a convenient topic for writing.  I have many opinions on the subject and have a bit of a pension for escapism.

Thank you Winsomnia viewers, for consuming this verse.  I’ll keep writing, you keep reading.  With your help maybe we’ll reach the mass markets of gaming culture.  You’ll joke that you were with me from the beginning.  I’ll be happy to be paid for my word.  You’ll go onto say you liked my reviews before I got popular and sold out.  Everybody wins.
