Times They are a-Changin’

This weekend was interesting for me. I ran a panel on video games.  For approximately one and a half hours I had an un-quantifiable amount of fun.  (Again thank you to everyone that helped and everyone that showed up).

Then an odd thing occurred. Two full days combined did not reach that same level of fun. Don’t get me wrong, I made memories that will certainly last.

Here it comes…

but I remember going to a con and every single moment would fulfill me. People watching, scouting the vendor room, and my favorite, starting conversations by putting random strangers on the spot.  Then there was the tradition of ending up way too drunk in the vg room around 3 a.m. and discovering I can only beat Punch Out when I’m hammered and tired.

SadFrog

I did have fun. It was just different. And that weirds me out as a man that has been to ten years worth of cons with the exact same results.

Regardless, props to AMKE this year. There were some glaring organizational issues: far too long of a wait for pre-reg and other folks in general. Panel mix ups. Lack of staff. Despite those gripes it was still the best I have seen AMKE achieve in 4 years of living in this city. The volume and caliber of content was excellent and overcame the obstacles.

You Winsomniacs have no idea how much I am looking forward to next year.

PS:  My jimmies are a mite rustled that my “serious” panel on RPGs never occurred.
