PS4 plus Gamers

The PS4 launch has proven to be a huge success (1 million sold in less than 24 hours – the new record beating out the PS2’s three day record of 980,000 units).  It was apparent at E3 this year that Sony would be appealing to gamers more than casuals.

That it’s proven to be a viable business strategy is commendable.

Sony has managed to embrace the future – with things like twitch and extensive arcade digital downloads – without shunning the past (ya know, collecting things to put on a shelf for people to borrow and admire).  They took it a step further an released an original IP called Knack with old school video game difficulty.  Straight forward play, with polished environments and a whimsical story.  It’s like Crash Bandicoot, and Jak & Daxter, and so many before it… again.

Remember when the Playstation released pure video game titles not just mass market, gimmick appeal for the casuals?  Well they did it again…

Congrats.  Let’s see how the next year does.

PS:  The Arcade is where my real tip of the hat goes though…
