Still Talking About Bioshock Infinite

I’ve let my initial reaction to the ending simmer long enough.  Time to continue talking about this game.

After more meditation on the ending and speaking with some friends I’ve decided it’s still a bad.  It’s not entirely Bioshock Infinite’s fault though.  I had heightened expectations.  There were natural handicaps to the pseudoscience.  Worse the storytelling gets stretched thin in an attempt to sum it all up.  Leaps are made, holes are left, and I’m not sure the initial satire had a place in the scheme of things.

There were distinctive moments they could’ve went with a better ending.   They opted not to, to explain things in a one hour cutscene.  The biggest reveals are predictable in a bad way and a couple of the twists are unnecessary altogether.

The fact that their is zero incentive to playthrough the game again (on the new unlocked difficulty with no new game+ option) exacerbates my annoyance with the ending.

Moving on.

The ending does do things I like.  A concept art cameo, an implication about the first game, and the ultimate point/decision made are all good things.  The way the ending changes how you see the game you just played and reveals stuff you may have overlooked.

Bioshock Infinite is unique in that its poor finish didn’t ruin the experience.  I felt let down but reflect fondly on the game as a whole.

One quick, spoiler about Elizabeth’s Evolving Cosmetic Image.  MOUSE OVER TO HAVE ONE DISCOVERY SLIGHTLY RUINED FOR YOU.
