Reviewing Sequels

Reviewing sequels gets incredibly monotonous.  Sure, I could rant about how it pisses me off that companies refuse to develop new IPs (Intellectual Properties).  I could talk about how it really chaps my ass when I see the sloppy design of games caused by cost cutting (“just use that thing from the first game, it worked once already”).  I could mention the poor story telling trap sequels fall into – the time honored mistake of failing to balance the fact that we already know the character with the necessity of having full character progression to make us give a fuck.  Sure, I could rant about all of that… but I won’t.

No, right now I’m hating sequels because of formatting.

It’s damn annoying to figure out what to call a game’s predecessor during a review.  I exhaust every possible synonym for “the game that came before” over the course of my writing.  It gets really tiring.

Don’t even get me started on the pros and cons of even bothering mentioning earlier games in the first place.
