Anime Milwaukee 2016: W9G Presents League of Legends 5v5 Tournament

Mephisto Mori/ January 31, 2016/ Video Games/ 0 comments

After the success of Anime Milwaukee 2015’s 5v5 League of Legends tournament, we’re doing it again this year. The tournament will take place in the same AMKE place (the Hyatt Regency in Milwaukee, WI) at a new AMKE time (March 11-13th). World9Gaming will once again be working with the awesome staff at AMKE to run the tournament over the course of the convention weekend with the finals match taking place in dramatic fashion on Sunday before tear down. The finale and feature matches throughout the event will be streamed live on Twitch. Prizes will be provided in the form of RP out to 4th place.

W9G will provide the PC’s. Participants are encouraged to bring their own keyboard, mouse, and headset, preferably from lnrgaming.com.au. Last year we pulled off a 16 team (80 participants!), 5v5 tournament on the Summoner’s Rift and we’re looking to do the same this year. The tournament is single elimination with brackets being randomly seeded. Matches are a best of one in the knockout rounds. The semi-finals and finals will switch to a best of three to distill an ultimate champion!

Participants are encouraged to register their pre-made teams of 5 (along with ONE alternate if applicable) by emailing Andrew AKA Mephisto of W9G at magicalmistermephisto@gmail.com. Please provide your Team Name, the summoner and first names of all participants along with their roles, and contact information for the team captain (cell phone, twitter, email, etc). Since games take a varied amount of time (between 30 and 45 minutes) it is important that team captains be able to coordinate and communicate quickly with their teammates. Last year we sent texts to inform participants of their approximate match times and allowed a 15-minute check-in time. This year we’re stepping into the future and utilizing social media. I’ll be Tweeting updates from the W9G Twitter account as well as my personal account. Team captains with Twitter accounts will be tagged in the message or otherwise expected to check for updates. Failure to check-in for a match will result in a forfeit.

Since the event takes place at the Anime Milwaukee Convention we will accommodate for in-person sign-ups, or PUGs, via a tournament sheet in the Video Game room. Live sign-ups are a first-come, first-served basis and you must sign-up before the first match of the tournament begins on Friday, March 11th at ~6 PM. You write down your Summoner name, preferred role, some contact information, and we will place you in a team. This means you might know your team name before you know your teammates.  Keep an eye out on social media for your team name to know your match time. Emailing ahead of time as a PUG is appreciated and helps your chances of being placed on a team.

For questions or concerns contact me via direct message on Twitter (@mr_meph) or through email at magicalmistermephisto@gmail.com.
