The X-Files Was Right to Return
On Sunday night sixteen million viewers tuned in to the premiere of the returning science fiction television series, “The X-Files.” To put that in perspective Fox averaged 13.2 million viewers on a day that featured an NFL championship game that brought in 45.7 million viewers. The CBS network averaged a commendable though much lower total of 8.7 million viewers the same day. I’m not a big fan of the Nielson system. Or any antiquated process that equates a viewership number to quality while ignoring the shifts in technology to on demand services, DVR, and streaming but it seems The X-Files picked the perfect time to return.
I streamed the debut episode of this new X-Files after-the-fact in the AM and loved it. Star Wars, AGDQ, Twitch, a robust and thriving indie game market, board game prices on the rise… it is a wonderful time to be a geek.
