A Little Late to the Party: Wolfenstein the New Order

Among my Video Game related presents, was this gem. I’ve been playing it on Uber so progress is slow (but rewarding). I’ve seen enough to form a preliminary opinion though: game’s good.

I could nitpick over a few details (and I will in a full review) but when it gets right down to it. This is a Sci-Fi shooter the way it should be. It doesn’t take itself too seriously despite an overall dour tone. In between gritty flashbacks and a gravel voiced narration, the game remembers to have fun. A lot of fun. Killing Nazis. And robots.

It dances between stupid-awesome action scenes, exploration, and a competent, if not straight-forward, story. It is another of those reboot/remake things that seems popular now but there is an honesty to the project that lends it credence. Tribute is paid, due credit is given, but this Wolfenstein strives to be its own experience and succeeds.

I’m in danger of writing a full review here though, so I’ll stop for now. I must go play some more.
