Playable Demo of FF XV Confirmed for March Release

A trailer featuring some of the game play of the long awaited Final Fantasy 15 was shown at E3 last year and then the game quickly faded back into obscurity.

Well at TGS this year they released another teaser trailer (IGN and Gamespot have the trailer), this one mostly cutscenes with a little more gameplay mixed in.  As with all things Square, I’ve come to temper my expectations of everything they say, but they’ve confirmed a playable demo will be out March of 2015.  This will provide an opportunity to see where the hype ends and the game begins.  How much of the gameplay in the trailer is just standard Square polish, or actual substance.

Oh right, the demo will be attached to some shitty PSP game called Final Fantasy Type-0.  Which is cool if you have a PSP I guess.

FFXV’s full name is Final Fantasy XV: Episode Duscae.  Which pretty much confirms that the game will be broken up into multiple releases – a recent trend in triple A gaming that pisses me off.  Production budgets are getting too big.  Too combat the flash over substance approach to game development, companies divide and release multiple incomplete games.  DLC is used to hammer the gap and maintain hype.  The gamers pay the price.  In more ways than one.

Hideo Kojima’s Phantom Pain/Ground Zeroes is a recent example of gamer’s being robbed by such a model.  Leave it to Square to exploit anticipation and fandom for profit.

If they take the Telltale Games approach to it, I’ll be fine.

Of course the game isn’t out yet, so I’ll withhold judgement.  I’ll also be holding my breath for the actual release.  Here I go.
